The mix (can be made in advance and stored in ziplock baggies, until you are ready to use)
- 2/3 cup nonfat dry milk powder
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
- 4 packets Sweet ‘n Low, Splenda, or other sugar-free sweetener (See note below)
- 2 cups of water
- 1 tsp butter
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Combine all of the above ingredients in a small saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, till mixture is well blended and hot, turning off the heat just before the boiling point. Stir for an additional minute and serve.
NOTE: Do not use any sweetener containing aspartame. Aspartame is unsuitable for hot beverages or cooking because it breaks down when heated, and becomes bitter tasting.
