Got a project working today that will likely be the basis of an episode of Cyberpunk Librarian. Basically, I was scratching an itch and accidentally learned Python. Also, my project has the dumbest name possible, but what I lack in coding ability I make up for in the ability to come up with dumbass names for the project.
I just finished a three week clean up of our postal code database in Polaris. I don't think anyone had ever done it in the 11 years I've been here, and it was one of my primary goals when I got the ILS Admin gig. We had cities assigned to zip codes that didn't even make sense. Now, it's just a matter of maintenance! :D
Took two and a half hours, but after grinding my inbox, it's now clear. 49 emails handled and three ILS tickets closed.
hey! so our IT Mgr went to your session at CiL and passed the info on to one of the IT guys and yesterday we got some Raspberry Pi displays up and running! I heard about it and said 'HEY THAT'S DAN'S THING, I KNOW HIM!"· holly 1
OH WOW! That's awesome !:D I've gotten some really great responses from that session. I'm so happy people got something out of it!· Bibrarian
our main branch wants to add them for each of their meeting rooms to display the room schedules, so they are gonna be perfect. :) and i think they've already got plans to use them to replace what we have at some other branches.· holly
MY NEW BOOK IS OUT! I can finally follow up on yesterday's teaser and announce the arrival of my latest book, Digital Outback! Come and explore cyberpunk philosophy and online culture with your friendly nieghbourhood cyberpunk librarian! http://amzn.com/B01CE0TUMM
Sitting on top of a really exciting announcement, but I can't make it just yet! And it's one where I have to wait because it's simply not ready! I'm literally hitting F5 on a browser every so often to see if it's ready!
Setting up a wifi hotspot with the word "guest" in the SSID and then requiring a user name and password to use it is like inviting everyone over to your house for a beer party and then locking the bathroom doors.

Sometimes you get the PHP. Sometimes the PHP gets you. Today, a thing I needed to do actually worked on the first try. This never happens. I was convinced I was looking at anomalous success so I tested the code for five minutes just to make sure. Yeah, it worked. Meanwhile, yesterday I spent thirty minutes hunting down an issue with a variable. Whenever I work with PHP, I'm mystified that WordPress works so damn well.
Cyberpunk Librarian is BACK with episode 42! Join me for Write, the Universe, and Everything! We're going to dive into the joys of writing in plain text (and MarkDown) and we'll look at one of the greatest text editors ever! http://cyberpunklibrarian.com/podcast/cyberpunk-librarian-episode-42-write-the-universe-and-everything/
I'm working on a project that involves ImageMagick and PHP. The thing about ImageMagick is that it's bizarre and the thing about PHP is that... well, it's PHP. PHP is so very PHP. But by god, I managed to get the damn thing working in spite of how PHP works with variables in an exec statement.
I love food trucks, don't get me wrong... but this has been my experience time and time again. Order the food and wait... and wait... and wait. It once took me 35 minutes to get a hamburger. In 35 minutes, I could've gone to the store and gotten the necessities to BBQ my own burger and still had it in less time.
I don't know about y'all... but I hate three day weekends. OH YAY! WE GET AN EXTRA DAY OFF! Bullshit you do, you pay for it on Tuesday. God's hell you pay dearly for it. If I could, I'd work Thursday through Monday just so I didn't ever have to deal with them again. /rant
I don't watch a lot of TV, but when I read an article about how Netflix is working on a series based on Altered Carbon... I will mainline the hell out of that. http://www.theverge.com/2016/1/20/10799832/netflix-altered-carbon-tv-show-sci-fi-cyberpunk-detective-series-ordered?utm_campaign=theverge&utm_content=chorus&utm_medium=social&utm_source=twitter
Holy shit... astronomers may have found another planet in our solar system, and it's BIG. Like five to ten times the size of Earth. http://www.engadget.com/2016/01/20/astronomers-may-have-found-the-solar-systems-9th-planet/
