Today, this random old woman on the train told me that I was knitting incorrectly and that someone should teach me the proper way to knit. If she hadn't been old and my mama hadn't taught me to respect my elders...

Just so you know, the "English" style of knitting is, apparently, incorrect here in Norway. GTFO.

Heehee! Mine only taught me to crochet. I had to teach myself to knit with a book and some YouTube videos. We do what we can. ;)

My only reply would have been, "You're doing stranger wrong."

Heaven forbid you throw rather than pick! And yet you still manage to create knitted objects... shocking that.

While my grandma was teaching me to knit she used to name patterns as "English" or "French" and so on. We were Russians and now I'm curious what my style of the socks-knitting is.

my wife actually learned at least one new way to knit socks. she knew at least on 2 needles and on 4. but then she got job in library in children section, and her senior colleague (finnish Swede, they are different than Finns, they became friends later) has taught her how to do it completely new way.

I had a similar situation on a Russian train, and that old lady actually taught me a couple of useful tricks I hadn't known before.

HA! Where as most people I know knit English and tell me I knit "weird" lol! (I can't knit English to save my life - seriously - I tried to teach myself 3 or 4 times to knit using books that only had that method and failed everytime - I was about ready to settle for the fact that I couldn't learn to knit because I already knew how to crochet, when I learned about knitting continental and found knittinghelp.com and was finally able to teach myself that way...as long as the stitches are getting made why does anyone care?)

Are there rap battles in knitting? Because someone on a public train obviously wants to throw down.
