"Books, like stuffed animals, are things. They're very thingy. They have a size and shape. They are more or less shiny, soft or hard, smooth or rough, The paper within them is glossy or matte, brilliant or warm, exciting or comforting." - Chris Raschka, in the Foreward to Reading Picture Books With Children: How To Shake Up Storytime and Get Kids Talking About What They See by Megan Dowd Lambert
This is a really great book, btw. It's about having kids interact with books as physical objects during storytime as a way to discuss the story. So, asking them about how the endpapers work with the story, the purpose of typographical choices, how colors are used, etc - basically, really engaging kids in a dialogue about the book and the story contained within it rather than have them passively listen to the story. ‎- k8s
