Why is Mittens at the emergency vet?
Trying to rob it while it's open. Wow
Oh no! I'm sure that this did not help Mittens (or you). How is Mittens doing?
Mittens threw up a few times yesterday morning, and there was a lot of blood in it. I kept an eye on him during the day, and when I recognized that he wasn't eating, drinking or using the bathroom, I decided to take him to the vet. They did blood test and an x-ray, and decided that it looked like he had a blockage in his intestine. They told us he needed surgery right away, so they sent us to the emergency vet. The emergency vet looked him over & noticed a really nasty sore on his tongue. She decided that she'd hook him up to fluids for a few hours, then take another x-ray to look at the "blockage" again (she wasn't convinced it really was a blockage). She did another x-ray around 3 this morning, and decided there was no blockage, so no surgery was necessary right now. She sutured the hole/sore in his tongue and biopsied it at the same time. I picked him up this morning and had to take him back to the regular vet, so they could send the biopsy out for testing (since the emergency clinic is only open at night, they tend not to send out tests like that if they can help it), and so they could hook him back up to an IV for fluids and pain meds. He seemed to be doing well when I left him at the vet, but they weren't convinced that the blockage wasn't real, so they're reviewing both x-rays now to see what they see.
As far as the robbery, that was squashed almost immediately. They locked all the doors so the robbers couldn't get in, and they called the cops. The cops were there almost immediately (less than 2 minutes), and apparently caught the guys in about 5 minutes. The plus side of the attempted robbery was that they called one of the other vets in (I think he's one of the ones in charge of the clinic, which is why they called him), who happens to be a buddy of mine, so he helped give a 2nd opinion with the vet that was on-duty (and I think he might have swung a small discount our way, too).
Wow, after all the excitement, I'm glad the attempted robbery was squashed so quickly and that Mittens continues to feel better!
yowza, you know how to party! hope mittens continues to improve.
Any news? Wishing all the best for Mittens!
He's been at the regular vet all day. He seems to be doing well, but still not really eating or drinking anything. They've recommended that, once we bring him home this evening, we try to mix some canned food with water, and blend it up so it's super soft & runny, to see if he'll eat that. They did a 3rd x-ray this afternoon, and said that their original concerns seem to have gotten much better since they started pumping fluids through him last night.
