Mid year or earlier last school year (November? December?), Mr. 9 was identified as having regressed A LOT and slated for "extended school year" (summer school). His teachers (he has a whole team) cleared with me that they strongly recommended he be in-person due to writing and attention problems. The spouse is on board, I'm on board, his medical providers agree. Were told ESY starts 7/6 in May. Had heard nothing as of Tuesday last week,so sent an e-mail to the coordinator for the school system. then finally received the promised official letter on Friday last week (dated Jun 28 so likely not a post office issue). Bus would come to our house at 7:01am and pick him up. OK, then got an e-mail from his summer teacher yesterday (Monday, a federal state and local holiday) at 3:43pm saying: since there is only 1 IEP goal he'll be online only. .... I wrote back, no luck. Asked for the coordinator name - just heard back at 11:15 this morning that they'll have him in person and sorry for the miscommunication. Funny thing is we actually put him on the bus this morning so he's been there all day anyway. I'm used to our school being organized - the rest of the county, however, not so much.
My whole week was building to this awesome lunch: grilled chicken breast (too much so in fridge already cut into strips), 6 pack of romaine - half a head already washed and cut up in the fridge, grated a ton of extra Parmesan yesterday for spaghetti, brand new bottle of Cesar dressing acquired ... at some point? YUM! and ever so fancy. Plus eating standing up in my kitchen (to take a break from sitting to work) I could just shovel and didn't have to worry about salad-eating niceties :)
As a 50+ year old, wife and I may be in a wave to get the vaccine 3rd week of March.
Wife and I got our first shot on the 20th (Moderna) because we were in the right place at the right time, and the 2nd shot is scheduled for April 17th. Cancelled my apt that I had for March 27th.· Joe 8
Cake #3 for Ms and Mr 9. (mother in law was like bring cake, ok)
That looks AMAZING· Soup 4
Wow! Also, is it their birthday?· Galadriel
God, I really want cake so bad now· Soup
Their birthday was Wednesday. I made them a baked alaska (fail! Ms now 9's request after seeing it in a book of science experiments) and an orange cake with white icing (Mr now 9's request).· Christina Pikas 5
In response to Holly's delayed cat food. My phone charger cable failed and I ordered one from Amazon to be shipped overnight by 8am the next day (the 8th). The next day they said either the 10th or the 11th. So I went on the BestBuy site, got one for the same price, was notified in about 30 minutes it was ready to pick up, there was no line at the store - opened my passenger window, told them my name, she tossed it in, and I was back home a few minutes later. It was so fast and easy.
That was my experience with a wireless mouse. So much faster doing Best Buy curbside. Of course, this is not an option in Laramie, so I'm enjoying it while I can here in Olympia.· kaijsa 2
Same experience with the Target curbside. Really fast, their in-stock indicators have been accurate, and I'm able to get what I need quickly.· Jennifer D. 2
These are good things to know. I've taken advantage of Home Depot curbside pickup during these times.· The Common Masked Jill 1
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disenfranchisement_after_the_Reconstruction_era Disenfranchisement after the Reconstruction era - Disenfranchisement after the Reconstruction era in the United States, especially in Southern states, was based on a series of laws, new constitutions, and practices in the South that were deliberately used to prevent Black citizens from registering to vote and voting. These measures were enacted by the former Confederate states at the turn of the 20th century. Efforts were made in Maryland, Kentucky and Oklahoma. Their actions were designed to thwart the objective of the Fifteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, ratified in 1870, which sought to protect the suffrage of freedmen after the American Civil War.
trying to figure out my tv viewing today. Didn't realize I missed things last night :( As far as I can tell, 10am for the prayer service and then straight through to inauguration and then 2pm wreath laying and then after dinner the virtual ball event? Does anyone have a recommended channel? My internet is too wonky to stream (plus connected to work).
I have a meeting with an associate dean at 11 (whyyyyyyy????) but otherwise my plan is to turn on one of the major broadcast networks - probably NBC because we can pick them up on our rabbit ears - and make do with that. Galen linked to a YouTube stream for kids here, if your internet is up to that load: https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=eiojaVjtSs8&featu...· Catherine 1

Dallas Jury Finds Amber Guyger Guilty Of Botham Jean's Murder https://www.dallasobserver.com/news/former-dpd-cop-amber-guyger-guilty-of-murder-11769388
"Guyger's defense rested on a legal principle known as "mistake of fact." If a jury finds that a reasonable mistake led someone to commit and crime they wouldn't have otherwise in Texas, the state's penal code dictates that the person charged should not be found guilty of a crime. In Guyger's case, the jury of eight women and four men found that her mistakes — going to the wrong apartment and then deciding to use lethal force against Jean — were unreasonable."· JustDuckie 1
I've gone to the wrong floor before, but before I put in the key I realize things are different (doorbell, floor mat). And even if I had gone in, my first thought would probably be Oops, not Die Die Die.· bentley 5
SNL Fires New Cast Member Shane Gillis https://www.vulture.com/2019/09/snl-shane-gillis-fired.html
"Last week, clips began to circulate of new featured player Shane Gillis on his podcast, in which he made multiple racist statements about Asians and also used homophobic slurs."· JustDuckie
good.· LibSkrat 8
"An SNL spokesperson on behalf of Lorne Michaels released a statement today, revealing that the show has decided to part ways with Gillis ahead of next week’s season premiere: After talking with Shane Gillis, we have decided that he will not be joining SNL. We want SNL to have a variety of voices and points of view within the show, and we hired Shane on the strength of his talent as comedian and his impressive audition for SNL. We were not aware of his prior remarks that have surfaced over the past few days. The language he used is offensive, hurtful and unacceptable. We are sorry that we did not see these clips earlier, and that our vetting process was not up to our standard."· JustDuckie 1
