Things I learned: if you have an able bodied spouse who refuses to care for your children at all so you can work, you can't get the childcare tax credit.

Holy shit but that sucks. ‎· Kirsten
The childcare tax credit is unbelievably wonky. One year we couldn't take it because we put new energy-efficient windows on our house. I can't even. ‎· Catherine

so everybody keeps asking if we can qualify for a state childcare subsidy. No because with 2 children, you have to make less than $35k a year. So let's take an example case of a family that makes $36k a year... childcare averages in the county where I work? $250 a week. Two children. $500/week. Gross pay is ~692/week. That's with zero taxes, no healthcare or other deductions. You'd have to pay for your housing, food, and transportation with $192 a week for 2 adults and 2 children. ‎· Christina Pikas
That sounds...really awful. ‎· hedgielib
