"For the first time in history, the world’s top athletes will meet in Canada for the marquee and culminating FIS World Cup competition of the year. The Ski Tour Canada 2016 – FIS Cross-Country World Cup will feature four iconic Canadian ski destinations as host venues. The first week of racing will feature four stages in Quebec (Gatineau, Montreal and Quebec City), while the second week will feature the final four stages and awarding of the FIS crystal globes in Alberta (Canmore)."
Is there any interest in cross-country skiing in Canada or northern US? Will people come to watch them? Did any of you New Worlders even know about this?
I didn't know of it and I'm in Montreal. Those more aware of the sport surely are more connected to the events. They tend to love to hate winters (shoveling, icy rain, slippery roads) but still enjoy things like snowboarding, hockey and sledding.

Starts on Tuesday. I hope someone will show up :) I guess this is an experiment, though. An attempt to get Canada interested in the sport. Not many are :)
Based on my own experiment with a sample size of one, North Americans are much more likely to become fans of ski jumping than cross-country.
