OkCupid Study Reveals the Perils of Big-Data Science https://www.wired.com/2016/05/okcupid-study-reveals-perils-bi...
I'm curious how much of IRB training and consent issues is covered in various graduate disciplines. When I was getting my MPH, they spent a lot of time on this because obviously health care information comes with a LOT of privacy restrictions. But I'm working with PIs now who have backgrounds in fields like statistics and computer sciences, and have now crossed over into healthcare research, and they seem a lot less aware of why their IRB protocols have to be very, very explicit in describing how the data was collected and how they're planning to use it. ‎- JustDuckie
