Congressman Moves to Block Harriet Tubman’s Placement on $20 Bill http://www.nytimes.com/2016/06/22/us/politics/congressman-tri...
"Mr. King filed an amendment to an annual appropriations bill that would prevent any money from being spent to redesign American currency. It is unclear whether it will ultimately get a vote when the full spending bill, which covers financial services and general government appropriations, comes before the House this week." ‎- JustDuckie
"The congressman’s motivation for filing the amendment was also unclear. His office did not immediately respond to a request for comment." ‎- JustDuckie
I can't imagine why someone would do this other than as a purely dick move. The cost savings from not redesigning currency can't possibly be worth the effort of filing the bill. ‎- JustDuckie
Yep, I was right. He's a congressional troll: "The conservative gadfly said it is "racist" and "sexist" to say a woman or person of color should be added to currency. "Here's what's really happening: This is liberal activism on the part of the president that's trying to identify people by categories, and he's divided us on the lines of groups. ... This is a divisive proposal on the part of the president, and mine's unifying. It says just don't change anything." (via Politico)" ‎- JustDuckie
"Mr. King is known nationally for his polarizing stance on illegal immigration. He has introduced legislation to revoke birthright citizenship for the children of undocumented immigrants. In 2013, Mr. King drew ire for saying that such children were likely to be drug mules with “calves the size of cantaloupes” from hauling marijuana." He sounds like a lovely person. ‎- MoTO Babycakes
Well, and it isn't as if he's saving money - they have to redesign the currency periodically anyway, and this is part of the larger effort to do so. This could potentially make things more difficult and expensive, depending on how he's written his proposal. ‎- Jennifer D.
What. A. Dick. ‎- Soup
