Cod Signal. We have a collection of three volumes of bound serials (bound by my library, they didn't come this way). The volumes are labeled, "Overseas Editions of Magazines World War 1939-45." These include single issues of, for instance, Detective Story Magazine, Coronet, Newsweek, Popular Science, Popular Photography, Cosmopolitan, Overseas Comics. Every issue is labeled something like, "For the armed services" or "Overseas edition," or "Special overseas edition" and all say "Distributed by Special Services Division, A.S.F., U.S. Army" and "Not for sale." Some of them specify "Editorial content unchanged from regular edition." The typed title page of each volume says, "Special editions of magazines prepared for distribution to the armed services. They are printed on light-weight paper and do not contain advertising." [EDIT: I fixed special forces to special services]

I offered to write a blog post about these overseas wartime edition, but all I can find so far is about the Armed Services Editions books https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armed_Services_Editions . Any ideas where I could find out more about these magazines?

So far, all I've found are a couple of catalog entries in other libraries, plus a mention in the 1943 Congressional Record about the overseas edition of The Sporting News https://books.google.com/books?id=js9fOZ0APccC&lpg=SL1-PA3130&ots=Nd--s6ZAVM&dq="overseas edition" for armed forces distributed by Special services division A.S.F., U.S. Army&pg=SL1-PA3130#v=onepage&q=%22overseas%20edition%22&f=false

Congressional hearings about the Military Establishment Appropriation Bill of 1947. The opening statement says there's a monthly distribution of 29 popular magazines and comic books published in a special overseas edition with no ads. https://books.google.com/books?id=8uNsAAAAMAAJ&pg=PA142&lpg=PA142&dq="overseas+edition"+"special+services+division"&source=bl&ots=bkJ9GzPAjn&sig=ACfU3U1dvgtDDywnRqmvxF_j4I7cApVo-g&hl=en&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwj2hKmerLDlAhVHcq0KHfWaDdYQ6AEwDHoECAYQAQ#v=onepage&q=%22overseas%20edition%22%20%22special%20services%20division%22&f=false

There's a book about the Armed Services Editions books coming from another branch. Maybe that will have something about the magazine. I think I might have enough, as long as I talk about the books also.
