Back in February, my young charge came in wearing new Nikes. But they were lace-ups. Because of his disability set, he has some fine motor deficits and is unable to tie his shoes. Guess who gets to tie them? So, I said to his sister when he was getting off the bus the next day, "Now I'll have to teach him to tie his shoes."

She replied, "I don't ever see that happening."

I said nothing out loud, but inside I said, "Challenge accepted!"

Today he tied laces on a dressing board using the "bunny ears" method (not on shoes... that's still a long way off). It only took 3 1/2 months!

He successfully did it on demand four times, so he's definitely got it. I shot a video of one of these and sent it to his dad with instructions to show the naysaying big sister.

For perspective on this, I spent two years. That's years with a 'y' teaching him how to open a juice box.

Oh, and I found out a few weeks ago that I'm moving up to the high school with him next year. Which is awesome but also painful. I love the middle school, especially the teacher I work with.

That is fantastic progress in a relatively short time!

@jvjannotti: You did so much better than I would have done. I probably would have bought him a set of these: https://amzn.to/2F64Jf9
