Our Thanksgiving table. A few minutes ago the leftmost leg was lying on the floor. Guess who fixed it? Guess who also has no mechanical facility, but unlimited determination (or perhaps stubbornness)?
My now traditional Thanksgiving lunch. #secondyearinarow Hope your celebration, if you have one, is good.
Now, see, when Tom Hanks said, "Earn this," in Saving Private Ryan it landed as false and forced. It took me out of an otherwise entrancing movie. But when Merhashala Ali says, "You earned it," in Mockingjay Part 2 it lands as, well... earned.
Just uncorked (I actually had to use a cork screw that thing was jammed so tight) a bottle of this. Merry Errthang.

Note to self: I really should come to Mokum first instead of looking at those other sites.· Jim: Lose Cannon 2
Oops. Forgot I posted about Napoleon Dynamite yesterday. I forget what they say is the first thing to go.· Jim: Lose Cannon 2
You know, I used to buy Ginkgo Biloba to improve my memory, but I kept forgetting to take it.· Mr. Noodle 3
Yes, now I think I don't remember you telling me about that!· Jim: Lose Cannon 2
Today I purchased a bluray of Napoleon Dynamite for five dollars and ninety-nine cents. Maybe the best investment I've ever made.
Watching Constantine, the 2005 movie starring Keanu Reeves. It's not great.
Thank the Maker that Francis Lawrence eventually learned how to direct a film.· Jim: Lose Cannon
I checked this out of my local library under the incorrect assumption that it was the movie with Keanu and Pacino. That film is "The Devil's Advocate" which I did watch at some point. It was also a better movie - which isn't saying much.· Jim: Lose Cannon 1
Did you know there is a post-credits scene?· Jim: Lose Cannon 1
Are you *sure* Devil's Advocate is better?· Meg Vmeg 2
Yes. In the way that compost is better than regular trash.· Jim: Lose Cannon 2
I have the day off from school (cuz election day) but am supposed to be working on church stuff but I'm not (cuz mokum).

If anyone loudly mokums their neighbor early in the morning, it will be taken as a curse. Wisdom of Mokum 24:7 (apocryphal, but still worth reading)· Jim: Lose Cannon 7

I rewatched King Kong (the 2005 Peter Jackson version) last night. I remember people trashing the movie at the time but I thought it was pretty good. Kong actually gets a characterization. He comes off well - the humans don't. And I just discovered this Hollywood Reporter story from 2017 that summarizes how I felt rewatching it. [It's Time to Rethink Peter Jackson's 'King Kong' "History has been too unkind to the director's 2005 film, which should be remembered not as lumbering and mindless, but as majestic and mesmerizing." https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/king-kong-time-rethink-peter-jacksons-2005-movie-983493]
I watched the extended version and I have to admit there are some pretty crappy effects shots that weren't in the theatrical version. At least, I hope they weren't.· Jim: Lose Cannon
I remember it being good too! Lots of meta, plenty of creature-feature, what's not to like?· LibSkrat 2
I've been a Peter Jackson fan since Heavenly Creatures. His filmmaking always pushes the envelope. I was wowed by "They Shall Not Grow Old," his WW1 doc. And now he's finishing up a Beatles doc!!!· Jim: Lose Cannon
And Andy Serkis. That guy is a force of nature.· Jim: Lose Cannon 2
Recently watched "We Own the Night" a 2007 film from James Gray (who directed the mediocre Ad Astra which came out a few weeks ago). It's a good film. There is a scene in it where an actor who looks like Ed Koch appears as the mayor of New York.
Well, I am now watching the film with the commentary track. It turns out that it really is Ed Koch.· Jim: Lose Cannon 2
Anyway, the movie is worth watching just for the scene where a prisoner is transported during a heavy downpour. Really accomplished direction in that scene and throughout the film.· Jim: Lose Cannon

Decided to have dinner at this place here in #ocnj. Googled the restaurant. On the results page there was a little box that said "make a reservation"...
So I'm watching this movie called Chef and I like it, it's funny. Suddenly Robert Downey Jr. shows up and holy s**t this film just goes all Elon Musk on me, achieving escape velocity. Wow. Or maybe it's just the beer.

Trivia question. What do these two films have in common?
Wait, I just now heard that people are pissed because Ariel is gonna be black. We are hosed, as a nation I mean. H-O-S-E-D.
The next general election is 16 months away. Donald Trump is the president. And as always, the Democrats are busy tearing each other apart.
Have you ever seen (or even heard of) Hardcore Henry? A frightening and astounding amount of what happens on screen in this film was done in camera, according to director Ilya Naishuller.
It looks really interesting, but I get motion sickness from first person games/video that isn’t stabilized. The camera work alone had me intrigued.· Jennifer D.
This whole movie is first person POV. It's like a game but whoever is playing is way better than me.· Jim: Lose Cannon 2
Kung Fu Hustle: lots of calls out to other, better movies (Untouchables, The Shining, Exalibur to name just one scene) makes it interesting. Otherwise it's people flying after being hit, or the hitters flying toward the hittees. Sometimes both at the same time.
