I just signed a contract for a one year term, starting August 1, 2016, to be Acting Head, Steacie Science and Engineering Library. In other words, the job I held for six years up until a few years ago. The library system will be implementing a new, as yet unfinished, strategic plan and organizational restructuring during that year. Yay?
That sounds ... unsettling. But congrats? ‎- secret agent Fister
I'm ok with doing this for a year since it basically allows them to punt a deeper problem until after the re-org, since, who knows, after the re-org it may not be a problem anymore. As for the strat plan/re-org itself, I had mostly hoped to steer clear of any direct involvement but that doesn't seem likely at this point. ‎- John Dupuis
If you're doing this for a year, what are you NOT doing for that year? And who will be doing it? ‎- Catherine Pellegrino
I had the same reaction as secret agent Fister. Yay but ugh? ‎- LibSkrat
I'll be shedding some of my non-engineering collections/liaison responsibilities. ‎- John Dupuis
hmmm. I'm ok with it if you are. :-) ‎- StephanieCogSciLibrarian
I'm ok with it for a year. I figure a year is survivable no matter what. ‎- John Dupuis
BTW, technically the department head position doesn't come with any official release time but there is a $6000 stipend which pays for some extra pain and anguish. (Admin stipends for members of the bargaining unit are public and part of the contract. The stipend for my AUL year was only a bit higher and involved WAY more pain and anguish.) Restructuring my liaison duties was something that was going to happen no matter what given the rapid growth of our engineering faculty. ‎- John Dupuis
