Well, this must be a first. Listening to a proper novel learned a bona fide great joke that I never heard before. Here goes:
A man was obsessed with the meaning of life. He desperately tried to find it, but never could. ‎- Valera Fooksman
He thought that maybe the meaning of life is in knowledge, so he studied hard, and dedicated his life to science and learning. He learned a lot but couldn't figure out the meaning of life. ‎- Valera Fooksman
He then thought that maybe the meaning of life is in wealth so he became a businessman, and he earned millions, and still he couldn't find the meaning of life. ‎- Valera Fooksman
He then thought that maybe the meaning of life is in poverty and humility, and he lived on the streets for years while owning nothing, and still he couldn't figure out the meaning of life. ‎- Valera Fooksman
He tried many other things, plunging into them with passion, but all in vain. The meaning of life remained a mystery to him. ‎- Valera Fooksman
Finally, someone told him that high in Tibet mountains lives a wise monk who knows the secret of the meaning of life. ‎- Valera Fooksman
The man went to Tibet, climbed the high mountain, and waited for months in line to see the wise monk. ‎- Valera Fooksman
Finally, the man approached the monk. An old man sat peacefully under a tree with his legs crossed and eyes closed. The man addressed him: ‎- Valera Fooksman
"Oh wise one, I dedicated my life to searching for the meaning of life. I searched high and low, I was rich and I was poor, and I still can't figure it out. Tell me, what is the meaning of life?" ‎- Valera Fooksman
The wise man opened his eyes and replied in cracked voice: ‎- Valera Fooksman
"My friend, the life is like a river" - and stopped. ‎- Valera Fooksman
The man waited a little. ‎- Valera Fooksman
"What? You fucking scumbag! You pompous jerk! You idiot! I traveled all this way, I waited for months, I dedicated my whole fucking life to searching for the meaning of life, and you're telling me that life is LIKE A RIVER?! ‎- Valera Fooksman
The wise man opened his eyes again and said: ‎- Valera Fooksman
What? It isn't? So life is not like a river? ‎- Valera Fooksman
(end of joke) ‎- Valera Fooksman
