Note that the list compiler apparently defines "African descent" as black and nothing but. In comment #5, the compiler explains that author Leila Aboulela "was removed because the author is not of African descent. I understand she is Sudanese, but that is a nationality not a race. She has to be of the African race to be on this list." According to Wikipedia, Leila Aboulela is half Egyptian and half Sudanese.
I used to lament that race and racism loomed so menacingly over black fiction. But then I realized that it's America's problem. Not mine.
